My Style: Golden Memorial Day

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
 ~Moina Belle Michael

Memorial Day in the United States is a day of remembrance for the men and women who have died in service to our country. I have started this post with a poem by Moina Michael who was moved by John McCrae's poem "In Flanders Fields" and raised money for veterans by selling red poppies. Although Memorial Day can be a solemn event, I chose to smile in these photos as a celebration of freedom and happiness that we all enjoy today because of the valor of our patriots, those who serve and protect.

Another American tradition is to host a BBQ on Memorial Day, signifying remembrance but also the start of summer for many families. I will be celebrating Memorial Day in California as I start a new adventure with a summer internship (stay tuned because I will disclose the details next week). Here I'm wearing the prettiest summer dress, sandals, choker, and bracelet--all by Hollister. May your weekend be filled with loving memories and the start of a fantastic summer!  Xoxo, Shelly
